First Graders discussed the cultural significance and symbolism of a "Tree of Life" after looking at traditional art works by Peruvian, Haitian, and Indian artists. After looking at these images, first grade compared the similarities in style between these traditional artists and the European artist Gustav Klimt who painted at the beginning of the 20th century. For our own trees we had the option of adding personal symbolism or just delighting in the decorative aspects of pattern. Check back for the finished products soon!
