Second graders ooohed and ahhhhed as Ms. Allen spoke about the Mexican holiday of Dia de Los Muertos. As she explained the history and artifacts surrounding the holiday students asked thoughtful questions about how to keep the memory of their ancestors alive. Hands were excitedly raised as anecdotes about the ways in which their families remember loves ones who are no longer here were shared with Ms. Allen. Objects from the multicultural department were lovingly admired and passed from hand to hand, including an authentic sugar skull. One student smiled as Ms. Allen left saying, "I'm glad I know the difference now between Halloween and Dia de Los Muertos, Halloween is scary, but Dia de Los Muertos is not!"
